title : American Sexarrel.
+Apparel. The American type. It's the most unconventional clothing companyever created and yet people actually wear their clothing. If it's not only the fact that half of their clothing no one that I know could wear around the park like bright silver tights and stone-washed cutoffs, it's the fact that they over-sell sex more than a cheap 118th prostitute. Hey, sex sells, we get it. But where do you draw the line? American Apparel ads are practically soft-core (borderline child) pornography. These ads depict “real” women who are all necessarily size 0. That makes the pornographic nature of the ads that much more offensive. Girls can identify much more strongly with the women in AA ads than they do photo-shopped supermodels gracing the cover of Elle and Vogue. It sends a more direct message to young women everywhere – this model looks like you, she’s wearing our clothes and pushing her ass in your face, this is what modern, cool young women do. Don’t believe me? Sometimes pictures speak louder than words: Ironically, this company wants you to believe that sex sells and so on but the CEO of the whole damn company looks like a dirty pedophile and completely contradicts all of his own sick and sexist beliefs. Once again, pictures speak louder than words. And just what are these disgusting beliefs? Last year, he demanded every employee under AA to send in a head shot and he would judge if they were attractive enough to work for them. Pardon? Yeah, a creepy, not-so-attractive man decided that the reason why sales were down was because no one was as gorgeous as he was. Not only is he a complete joke but he's all well known for his sexist and anti-feminism marketing schemes. I quote, from one of his ads: “Women initiate most domestic violence, yet out of a thousand cases of domestic violence, maybe one is involving a man. And this has made a victim of culture out of women.” Wow, culture of victimization, isn’t that nice. I wonder how many battered women's shelters he has visited to see just how imaginary the bruises and the emotional scars are? Has he purposefully blinded himself to the images in pop culture of women being beaten by men? So, to summarize, a CEO that's a huge douche bag runs a big piece of shit company? Who would have guessed it. But, if your into the whole sexist, somewhat racist, unconventional antics of American Apparel, I proudly salute your choices of terrible clothing and supporting Mr.Charney. Here's my personal favorite out of all of his "in genius" quotes on how to run a "great company" :
